Graduating from the University of California San Diego with a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering, Ono spent the first 10 years of his career working in the environmental sector; enforcing air pollution regulations in the Pacific North West, monitoring water distribution and sanitation in the Eastern Sierras and managed wastewater infrastructre projects on O’ahu to help establish a sustainable future for the people of Hawai'i. While having spent his early year dedicated to the scientific and environmental fields, Ono knew he could have a greater impact by communicating the planet’s story through filmmaking and visual imagery. His films and photographs are infused with an intimate knowledge of nature, people, a passion for pure color, and a rhythm drawn from life itself.
